On the launch date of Something, Yoof's debut LP, we spoke to Michael-James Dent about the process which got them this far and what will hopefully take them further.

Making a name for yourself as a new band is no easier these days than what it was before. It's claimed that the emergence of the Internet as a marketing and promotional tool has opened new doors for independent musicians, creating a level playing-field to showcase their music. There's always two sides to any coin and with the level playing-field comes the problem of standing out among a lot of repetition, copycats and in some ways far too many would-be musicians who, Soundcloud streaming aside, couldn't snag themselves a gig to save their lives. Musical self-awareness isn't a quality that the masses possess, but it's ultimately the key to relative success and longevity in a market, currently saturated in singer-songwriters, shoe-gazers and dream-poppers. We spoke to Yoofs' Michael-James Dent on their progress since 2011 and the problems facing modern-day bands.

Bournemouth's Yoofs return this month; releasing "For Her" as part of Art is Hard Records' brilliant monthly postcard club.

Yoofs stream new track "Déjà Vu" from forthcoming LP Something.

"Déjà Vu" is the latest taste of Yoofs' long-awaited LP Something, and it just gives us further inclination as to exactly what we can expect from the record.

Yoofs completely re-jig their sound for "Toy Organ" set to feature on debut LP - Something.

Bournemouth via London duo Yoofs (our 4th birthday compilation openers) have unveiled details of their debut LP Something and are streaming first track "Toy Organ", which sounds altogether nothing like any of their previous material.

Ever so pleased to announce that Bournemouth's Yoofs will be another band who are contributing to our third birthday compilation next week (24/10), and to get things going before then, the duo are showing off new tack "Shady Acres", from their forthcoming debut LP.

Recorded in their ever reliable caravan, "Love At 140" is another new cut from Bournemouth's slacker surf-pop duo Yoofs.

The first of the 'Soundcloud sessions' ran by The Sounds of Sweet Nothing label sees Bournemouth band Yoofs take centre stage to debut new song "Hazy Dayz".

Bournemouth slackers YOOFS are a busy ol' pair, and after donating precious track "Welcome Home" to our third birthday compilation back in October, they've decided to throw together a bunch of other rare demos to make a mini album of sorts, with a couple of new tracks in there too, like "Twist & Burst" for example.

Wow, three years sure has gone quick. But anyway, we're delighted to present '3', a compilation of 17 brand new songs from an array of artists. Compiled over the past couple of months, the album is available to download via our Bandcamp page as a 'pay what you like' deal (sweet right?). You can stream the full thing below, and continue down to read a short bio on all the artists involved.

Until next year, thank you.

Happppyyyy birrrthdaaaayy tooo uusss. Yep, four years young today. It's nice that we've been going so long now, but it's even better that we get an excuse to put together these birthday compilation albums with brand new music from some acts we love. So, just like last year with '3.', we present an album full of wonderful tracks to celebrate.

Bournemouth duo YOOFS aren't quite an RIP status yet, thank goodness. But while on somewhat of a leave of absence, singer Michael Dent is out there on his lonesome with a new project, Outlaw Boogie.

Bos Angeles - in the process of looking for a label to put their music out - have dropped new track "Pretend For You" and it would be fair to say it's a bit different from their usual style.

Art Is Hard are having one hell of a day today, first we bring you the new postcard club release of Yoofs' "For Her"; now we bring you, "Happy Anniversary", the new track from our favourite Sheffield surf rockers, Best Friends.

Dear readers, we felt this was necessary for a couple of reasons, mainly due to the fact that on any given week we can post around 20 pieces of 'new' content, and you, well, you're a busy lot, undoubtedly. With that said it's only natural that some really great tracks are going to pass you by undetected. After all, not everyone skims through their Twitter, Facebook or RSS feed like some kind of maniac. No no, that's just us. Anyway, we're pretty sure everyone will know about the new Beach House, GIRLS or Grimes record is out, but the rest, well that's a different matter entirely.
