Upon hearing about Guards they were somewhat of a myth. Now, over a steady amount of time, they have emerged as a stand out band to keep an eye on in 2011. A lot of you will be wondering still now, who are Guards? This is down to the niche market in which they currently sit in. But all that is soon to change.

Today we have a new band for you, in the shape of Guards, we're not the first by any means but wow these guys are good!

Not too much is known about the band. What we do know, is the band blew up when the news broke (Cults putting out a tweet) that Cults were featuring on a new song from a band called, Guards. The rest seems to be history and the future seems to be rosie. Heres an excellent quote from the bands (recently signed to) record label, 3 Syllables:

Guards are back with new song "Coming True" and with their debut LP in the distance, they continue to sit on the independent/commercial sound border.

Guards are set to release their new Resolution of One EP on Kitsuné next week.

As the year draws to an end its that time when we look through 11 months worth of music to bring you the 'Best Of' list.

The first installment in our ' Best Of' feature is 'Newcomers', which will be followed by 'Best Tracks', 'Best Albums' & finished off with our 'To Watch in 2011' list towards the end of the month.

Guards are back with details of new single, "Do it Again", a new LP, and possibly the sweetest live performance you'll have seen from them yet.

Last time we heard from Richie Follin's Guards was back toward the turn of the year with the track "Do It Agin". Now, it seems the band have gotten around to crafting their debut LP (out next year), with new track "Silver Lining" being the first single.

Seriously, where the hell did this stomper come from!? Guards have laid the typical vintage stylings once heard on "Resolution of One" down for a minute, to let rip on new single "Do It Again".

Last week we brought you the epic list of newcomers from this year, missing a few I'm sure but you can't please everyone. You also don't want to be doing ridiculous lists such as, 'The Top 100' sending everyone to sleep by the time they get to 50.

This week is the turn of 'Best Tracks'... no set figure... no ranking... just literally the best of the best this year.

Here we have Young Buffalo, they came to our attention upon being announced as support for Guards on their February 16th gig at The Lexington.

Richie Follin and the gang drop a free EP for the lovers today, covering songs from Metallica, Vampire Weekend and M.I.A

We spoke to the lads from Dirty Gold a few months back now and they tipped us the fantastic sounds of TV Girl, they've been gracing our decks ever since. We managed to catch up with TV Girl a week or so ago and here's the result.

Anything coming from 'Terrible Records' does seem to have something special about it. Twin Shadow and more recently Blood Orange can only back up my words ten fold.

This is not really new to us in terms of material, but the news that Cults will now be releasing the absolute gem of a track 'Go Outside' in the UK is BIG news in general, a lot bigger news today than that of who won a particular, lame, 'Sound of 2011' poll....

A decent day for new bands, this time we have San Diego's Writer and their latest track, "Family Dinner".

Thanks to a few friends in southern places, we've been keeping tabs on Jerry Tropicano for a while and newest track "Slap Back Fields" (in terms of Soundcloud) is something I can definitely dig.
