As we enter the run up to festival season, new music is surfacing thick and fast...

Bursting at the seems with shiny newness, May is well and truly the storm before the calm, so to speak. There's been an abundance of newcomers, singles, videos and EP's for us to chose from, and it's been pleasing to see such another quality month unveil itself. So, without further ado, let's recap on the month that was...

Track Of The Month

Coming back with a bang, Merchandise's "Little Killer" is the first to be taken from their upcoming debut album After The End on 4AD this August. A perfect combination, if you ask us, it's a different world they're veering towards. But then again, you wouldn't expect them to stay as your favourite unknown DIY band forever, would you?

Album Of The Month

Best Newcomer

London's Gengahr - notably recent tour mates with Wolf Alice - have produced one of the best sounding demos we've heard in a while. "She's A Witch" is great, but "Fill My Gums With Blood" proves that they're truly an exciting prospect. Elsewhere, Manchester's Loftt showed off "Pieces", a distinctive blend of darkened electronica, while Winchester's Bloom (with the melodic "Daydream"), New Orleans rapper Pell and Washington's Brett should merit some listening time also.

Other Notable Happenings

Oxford native Chad Valley, aka Hugo Manuel, went to Turks and Caicos (sort of) with his new side project, Kult Country return with killer new single "Trembling Moon", and the best of the rest comes from a long line of EP's, with Fait, Ben Khan, Wolf Alice, Shunkan all providing noteworthy releases.

Mysterious London group JLYY deserve a mention too with their second booming track "Peto", as does new music from the likes of  Los Porcos, Woods,  G R E A T W A V E S, Happyness & Blessa.

On the video front, there was new visuals from Wild Smiles, Ben Khan, Childhood, Ménage à Trois and Wolf Alice. You can check them all out here.
