Welcome to our 'Month In Review', a round-up of everything that was January 2014...

Wow, what a month it's been. After the seemingly baron last quarter that 2013 threw at us, January has almost been too much to take in. Not that we're complaining, mind you. Taking a slightly different route this year, we're rolling out a new feature called 'Month In Review', which will re-cap on the everything we've spoke about throughout the last 30 or so days. This month's is packed, so more of the same in February, please.

Single Of The Month

There was only one real contender for this, and that is the first proper single from ex WU LYF man Francis Lung with "A Selfish Man". It's a twinkling, emotion filled ode to the untimely exit from his previous band, done with commendable style. Get the almost sold out 7" here.

Other Notable Happenings

There was no shortage of news throughout January either. Wild Beasts' new album was confirmed with "Wanderlust", Merchandise's more than appropriate signing to one of the best labels out there at the minute, 4AD, Future Islands' new album announcement, the return of gap-toothed wonder Mac Demarco & not forgetting the departure of Sarah P from Greece's finest, Keep Shelly In Athens.

Best Newcomers

January played host to A LOT of new acts that came through with a bang. Most notably Sweden's School, ex Whirr vocalist Kristina Esfandiari, aka Miserable, Londoners Gold Spectacles, Cascine newbies Yumi Zouma & the mysterious collective of JLYY.
