Introducing: IO - No Life
All too often in our native North bands seem to go down that familiar route of attepting to duplicate sounds of 'lads lad' generation. It's not that we don't like Oasis or the Arctic Monkeys, we do, it's just nice to see a band follow their own ideas without giving in to the constraints of their predecessors.
So on that note let us introduce you to IO, a four piece from York made up of Oliver Webb, James Thomas, Mike Harding & Sam Ford. As a collective they have only been playing together since the turn of the year, with today being our first glimpse at what's materialized from the bands recent recording sessions.
Yes yes we know, two tracks is hardly a lot to go on, yet with "No Life" in particular the group show off their undoubted potential. Much like another favourite of ours - Trophy Wife - and their self proclaimed 'ambitionless office disco' aesthetic, IO command a calm, almost pastoral vibe to their progressive, experimental sound. Even when "No Life" shifts a gear in tempo it still retains its meticulously crafted rhythm.
More tracks are in the pipeline, so stick with us in the coming months. For now though you can stream the aforementioned "No Life"

ReplyDeleteThis band are awesome. I can't stand friendly fires yet I love these guys. I saw them support CSS and Oliver Webb's vocals were pitch perfect. With these guys it's not a case of if they make it, it's a case of when, if a band was ever on the cusp of success it's these guys. With a growing army of loyal fans these guys are making a real impact on the Yorkshire music scene. Before you review you should check them out at one of their forthcoming gigs. My favourite track has to be October Air. TYD
